The receipts

We weren't joking about the portions.

Three sizes, same service. Pick the one that matches how much you actually eat, not the one that sounds reasonable.

  1. Lite 200 g

    For lighter appetites.

  2. Standard 400 g

    For everyday eating.

  3. Full 600 g

For people who are tired of being hungry.

On Full, that adds up to

  1. 1.2 kga day
  2. 8.4 kga week
  3. 33.6 kgover four weeks

600 g × 2 meals, every day. Lite and Standard scale down the same way.

Scale

600 g doesn't sound like much. Until you see it.

600 g One Full BulkBite meal
700 g A standard loaf of bread

A Full BulkBite meal weighs almost as much as a standard 700 g loaf of bread. You get one or two of them a day.

Weight comparison only.

Start small

Start with one week.

7 or 14 meals - one or two a day, for seven days. One Sunday collection, two different dishes in the week, billed weekly. Cancel before the next charge and you have spent one week - if the portion is wrong, you have lost a week, not a month.

  • 7 or 14 meals in the week
  • 7 containers, one a day
  • 1 collection, 13:00-15:00
  • From R249.95 a week

A week costs more per meal than a monthly plan does - ~R45.14 a meal on Standard against ~R41.05 - because a week is a cook, a pack and a handover on its own. It is the shortest way to find out whether the portion fits before moving to a monthly plan.

How it works

One collection. A week of food.

Five steps, and four of them take no thought at all.

  1. 1

    Choose your plan

Pick a portion and how often you pay, then pay by card. It takes about two minutes.

  2. 2

    Collect on Sunday

One trip to Saint Mary's church. 7 containers, a week of food - one for each day. Or add delivery from R50 a week.

  3. 3

    Store them

Two in the fridge, five in the freezer, same day. Scan the QR on the container for the rest.

  4. 4

    Heat when you're hungry

Microwave or a pan. No recipes, no shopping, no timing.

  5. 5

    Repeat next week

Bring all 7 containers back, take a new dish home.

What disappears

  • Daily cooking
  • Takeaway delivery fees
  • Deciding what to eat every night
  • Rushing to make a dining-hall time
  • Ordering something, again

One less thing to think about.

Build your plan

Three questions.
One price.

Everything below is already set to the most popular plan, so the price is real from the start. Change only what does not suit you - the price follows.

What you're eating

Two dishes a week.
A new pair every week.

Two dishes each week, across a 12-week menu. We rotate 24 variations of chicken curry, beef pasta, beef chilli and chicken stew. One dish covers four days and the other three, whether you eat one meal a day or two.

That is the trade, said plainly: you are not choosing what to eat each night. Two ingredient lists a week is what keeps the portions this size, the price this flat and the kitchen able to get it right every time. If you want a different dish every day, BulkBite is the wrong thing to buy.

The cards show four examples from our 24 menu variations. Registered students are told the coming week's two dishes before collection, and every container carries a QR code to that week's ingredients, allergens and available nutrition estimates. Ingredients are occasionally substituted like for like; if a dish itself changes, we tell you first.

These are estimates for the four original base recipes, not exact nutrition for all 24 variations. Ingredients and seasonings vary; check the current food-care page for your dish.

Storage & reheating

You're collecting a week of food in one go, so how you store it on Sunday matters more than it does with a single takeaway. It is not complicated:

Within 2 hours
Containers 1 and 2 to the fridge. Containers 3 to 7 straight to the freezer, on collection day.
Every night
Move tomorrow's container from the freezer to the fridge. About 12 hours to defrost.
Reheat
Microwave or a pan, until it is steaming right through. Once only.

Every container carries a QR code. Scan it for the full instructions - temperatures, how long each dish keeps, how to defrost - plus that week's ingredients, allergens and nutrition. You also receive the same instructions in writing at signup.

Bring a friend

Refer a friend.
Get 7 free meals.

Every friend you refer who signs up and pays for their first month on the monthly plan earns you 7 free meals in your next month - one extra meal a day for a week, at the portion you already eat. The reward is yours: your friend signs up on the ordinary plan at the ordinary price.

It is not money off. The plan costs what it costs and the meals arrive on top, so you have to be on a paid plan to receive them - and every successful referral earns another 7. There is no cap and no code to remember. They just type your name in the “Did someone send you?” box when they check out, so we know it was you.

It is on the monthly plan only. The reward is food added to a month of meals, so the monthly plan is where it lives: a weekly plan is too short to hand it back on, and the yearly price is already the lower one. Neither earns it, and it cannot be added to either.

On top of any monthly plan 7 free meals Worth Lite ~R200 · Standard ~R287 · Full ~R350 one extra meal a day for a week

7 free meals per successful referral, added to your next month at the portion you are on. The reward applies to the monthly plan only: a weekly or yearly plan neither earns it nor carries it. They are meals, not money: there is nothing to redeem in cash and nothing comes off the plan price. A referral counts once your friend has paid for their first month. Collections start on Sunday 20 September 2026, so referrals earned now apply to your first months.

EARN THE FOOD.

Know a res, gym or noticeboard where hungry people gather? Put up an approved BulkBite poster with your own QR code. When new customers pay and complete their first collection, you earn Standard meals.

  • 1 qualifying monthly Standard customer → 1 Standard week free
  • 5 qualifying monthly Standard customers → an extra R500 once-off

New customers only. Successful payment and first collection required. No self-referrals or duplicate rewards. Applications are reviewed before posters and partner codes are issued, and a purchase cannot earn both a Poster Partner reward and the refer-a-friend reward above.

The actual problem

University doesn't happen on a dinner timetable.

Residence food isn't the problem. The clock is. Meals get served in a window, and your week keeps happening outside it.

  • Late lab?

    Your food is waiting.

  • Training finishes at 21:00?

    Your food is waiting.

  • Hungry again after dinner?

    Your food is waiting.

  • Don't feel like figuring out dinner?

    Your food is waiting.

Residence feeds you on its schedule.
BulkBite feeds you on yours.

Your food. Your fridge. Your schedule.

Nobody budgets for this

How much does your second dinner cost?

You already ate.
You're still hungry.

So at half past nine, you buy dinner again:

  • Takeaway
  • Snacks
  • Instant noodles
  • Bread
  • Whatever the shop down the road still has open

The expensive meal is sometimes the one you buy after the meal you've already paid for.

BulkBite can't promise that never happens again. What it can do is make the first meal big enough that the second one stops being the default. Dinner shouldn't end with you looking for dinner.

The honest part

Not cheap food.
A cheaper system.

This is ordinary food, properly cooked, with the expensive parts of the restaurant industry taken out of the bill. Here is what BulkBite doesn't spend your money on:

  • Two dishes, cooked in bulk - two ingredient lists, one preparation run.
  • Predictable quantities - we cook for a known number of students, so very little is wasted.
  • Fewer menu variations - no ten-item menu where half of it gets thrown away.
  • Fewer transactions - one payment a month instead of 56 separate ones.
  • One weekly collection - not 56 individual deliveries with a fee on each.
  • No storefront, no waiters, no delivery fleet - nothing to rent, staff or fuel. Delivery stays optional, at cost.

Every rand that would have gone into that complexity goes into your portion instead. You aren't paying for complexity you don't need.

Who this is for

Six situations. One plan.

The same food solves a different problem depending on who you are - and it is not always the student who pays for it.

Always hungry

For students who finish dinner and immediately start thinking about food again. 600 g is the answer to that.

Always busy

For students whose labs, lectures, sport or societies keep landing on top of meal times. The food doesn't care what time you get in.

Training or bulking

For students who train. 600 g a serving, twice a day - 33.6 kg of prepared food over four weeks, without cooking any of it yourself. The gym part is still on you.

Budget-conscious

For students who want one predictable food number a month instead of twenty small ones they never see coming.

A parent paying

For parents who would rather buy up to 56 proper meals a month than keep sending money for takeaways. One known amount a week, a month or a year on your card - and a message to us cancels it.

On a bursary

For students living off a bursary or an allowance. Pay weekly, monthly or yearly, from R249.95 a week to R20,159.95 a year - one known amount you can hold against an allowance before you commit.

No small print surprises

The whole thing, on one screen.

Portions and the food 5 questions
Which portion should I pick?

Standard is the sensible default - 400 g is a proper, filling meal, at R2,299 a month for lunch and dinner. Pick Full (600 g) if you are usually still hungry after dinner, if you train, or if you are the person who always goes back for seconds. Pick Lite (200 g) if you have a lighter appetite. Every portion comes at one meal a day or two, and the service is identical on all of them; only the serving size, the number of meals and the price change.

Are the portions exactly 200 g, 400 g and 600 g?

Those are the serving weights we portion to, and every figure on this page is calculated from them. Cooked food portioned in a working kitchen varies slightly from container to container - we portion to hit the stated weight, not to fall short of it. If a portion ever looks visibly light, tell us and we will make it right.

Why is the same meal used for multiple servings?

Because that is what makes the portions this size at this price. BulkBite cooks two dishes in bulk each week: two ingredient lists, one preparation run, almost no waste. A kitchen cooking ten different things for the same number of people has to charge for that complexity. Yours would be the portion that pays for it.

How often does the menu change?

The menu follows a 12-week cycle with 24 variations: chicken curry, beef pasta, beef chilli and chicken stew. Two dishes are cooked each week, one covering four days and the other three. Registered students are told the coming week’s two dishes before collection.

Is BulkBite meant to replace every food item I eat?

No. BulkBite covers lunch and dinner - or one of them, on one meal a day. Breakfast, coffee, snacks, bread, fruit, eggs and everything else stay yours. The point is that the meals that usually cost you the most thought, time and money are already in your fridge.

Prices, offers and paying 6 questions
What does a BulkBite plan cost?

Your price comes from three answers: one or two meals a day (and the portion), how long, and collect or delivery. On two meals a day, Lite costs R439.95 a week, R1,599.95 a month or R11,519.95 a year; Standard costs R631.95, R2,299 or R16,552.95; Full costs R769.95, R2,799.95 or R20,159.95. On one meal a day, Lite costs R249.95 a week, R908.95 a month or R6,543.95 a year; Standard costs R350, R1,272.95 or R9,164.95; Full costs R439.95, R1,599.95 or R11,519.95. A week is 7 or 14 meals. A month covers every Sunday collection until your next payment - 28 or 56 meals over four weeks, and more in a month with five Sundays. A year buys the 32-week campus year: 224 or 448 meals, with university breaks and holidays already taken out. Collection is free; delivery is extra. Every plan renews automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time.

Can a parent pay for their child's plan?

Yes. Nothing about a plan requires the student to be the one paying. Check out in the student's name so the collection list is right, and pay with the parent's card: Paystack charges that card weekly, monthly or yearly until the plan is cancelled. BulkBite never sees or stores the card number, and a message to us cancels the plan at any time.

Can I pay with a bursary or food allowance?

If your bursary or NSFAS allowance is paid into your own bank account and you have a card on that account, you can spend it on a BulkBite plan like any other money. Pay weekly from R249.95, monthly from R908.95 or yearly up to R20,159.95 - whichever matches how your allowance arrives. BulkBite does not invoice a bursary office or university directly and is not an accredited NSFAS merchant. Everybody pays the same way, by card through Paystack.

How does the referral reward work?

Every friend you refer who signs up and pays for their first month on the monthly plan earns you 7 free meals - one extra meal a day for a week, at whatever portion you are already on - added to your next month. The reward goes to you, the person who referred them: your friend signs up on the ordinary plan and does not get free meals. The reward is on the monthly plan only: a weekly plan is too short to hand it back on and the yearly price is already the lower one - neither earns the reward and it cannot be added to either. It is not money off: the plan costs what it costs and the meals arrive on top, which is why 7 meals is worth about R200 on Lite, R287 on Standard and R350 on Full. The rewards stack - every successful referral earns another 7 meals - and there is no code to remember: your friend types your name in the “Did someone send you?” box when they check out. You have to be on a paid plan to receive them.

Collection, storage and containers 6 questions
Where do I collect?

Outside Saint Mary's church at Eikestad in Stellenbosch. Sunday collection runs from 13:00 to 15:00.

When do I collect?

Sunday, once a week, from 13:00 to 15:00 outside Saint Mary's church at Eikestad.

Can I join if I live outside Stellenbosch?

Yes, as long as you can be outside Saint Mary's church at Eikestad on a Sunday between 13:00 and 15:00. There is one collection point, so what matters is not where you sleep but whether you can get there once a week - students commuting in from Somerset West, Paarl, Klapmuts, Franschhoek or a farm outside town are on exactly the same plan at exactly the same price. Delivery costs R50 extra per weekly drop and is offered inside Stellenbosch only. Five of the seven containers go straight to the freezer, so the drive home is not a problem.

Is delivery available in Stellenbosch?

Yes, inside Stellenbosch. Delivery adds R50 to each weekly payment on one meal a day, R100 to each weekly payment on two meals a day, and R250 to each monthly payment; on the yearly plan we arrange the fee with you after you sign up. Collection is free: one Sunday collection outside Saint Mary's church at Eikestad from 13:00 to 15:00. Delivery is a real cost, so it is priced separately rather than buried in everybody's portion.

How do I store the meals?

Two containers go in the fridge and the other five go in the freezer on collection day, then you move tomorrow's container to the fridge the night before. The full instructions - fridge and freezer temperatures, how long each keeps, how to defrost and how to reheat - come to you in writing at signup and sit behind the QR code printed on every container, alongside that week's ingredients and nutrition.

How do the containers work?

Your week's food comes portioned into seven reusable BulkBite containers - one for each day, holding that day's meal or meals - included in the price. There is no deposit and no weekly pile of disposable takeaway boxes. Rinse them, bring all seven back when you collect the following week, and we swap them for a clean set. Every container carries a QR code to the storage, reheating and nutrition page for that week's two dishes.

Training, nutrition and allergens 4 questions
Is BulkBite enough food if I train?

Full is the plan built for that: 600 g a serving, twice a day - 1.2 kg of food a day, 8.4 kg a week and 33.6 kg over a four-week cycle, at about R50 a meal. It is honest gym food rather than a macro-tracked programme: home-style beef and chicken dishes with rice or pasta, cooked in bulk. If you train, take Full and keep your own breakfast, snacks and supplements on top of it.

How much protein is in a BulkBite meal?

It depends on the dish and portion. Use the nutrition guide above to see estimated calories, protein, carbs and fat for the four original base recipe examples, with a slider for 200 g Lite, 400 g Standard and 600 g Full meals. Current variations may differ. These figures are calculated from recipes and standard ingredient data, rather than laboratory tested.

Is nutritional information available?

Yes, as an estimate. The nutrition guide above covers four base recipe examples and shows calories, protein, carbs and fat for every portion size. The food-care page behind the QR code on each container also carries that week's ingredients and allergen information. Nothing has been through a laboratory yet, and every figure is labelled as an estimate.

What allergens may be present?

The current rotation is built on beef, chicken, rice, pasta (wheat) and everyday vegetables, so gluten is present in the pasta week. BulkBite cooks in a shared kitchen, so we cannot rule out cross-contact with other common allergens and we cannot yet offer an allergen-free preparation. The confirmed allergen list for each dish is published once it has been checked. If you have a specific allergy, tell us in the form and we will come back to you directly before you commit to anything.

Starting, changing and cancelling 4 questions
When does my plan start?

Your first collection is the first Sunday after you pay, as long as you pay by 12:00 on the Friday before it - otherwise it is the Sunday after, because the ingredients for each Sunday are bought by then. The checkout shows the date before you pay. The official start is Sunday 20 September 2026, so nobody collects before then. As soon as you have paid, your welcome email brings the date and the link to the collection WhatsApp group, and if you have a question we reply on WhatsApp within 5 minutes. For a different start date, message +27 65 752 4234; a change applies only once BulkBite confirms it in writing.

Can I change tiers?

Yes. Message us by 12:00 on the Friday before the relevant Sunday collection and we move you to the new portion, or between one and two meals a day, from your next payment. Requests received later may only take effect for a later week because ingredients may already have been bought and preparation may have started.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time. Message us on WhatsApp or email and we cancel your plan with Paystack - nothing is charged after that, and the collections you have already paid for still go ahead. To pause instead, message us by 12:00 on the Friday before the relevant Sunday collection. Later requests may only take effect for a later week if ingredients have already been bought or preparation has started.

What happens over the summer holidays?

Weekly and monthly plans pause from 11 December 2026 to 7 February 2027. There are no collections during the break and no renewal is charged in it, and nothing you have paid for is lost: paid time that falls inside the break is added back from 7 February 2027, and your next charge moves later by the same number of days. If you sign up during the break, your first payment is taken straight away and its time starts counting on 7 February 2027. Yearly plans do not move - their price already covers 32 weeks of food across the campus year, with the breaks and holidays taken out.

If something goes wrong 3 questions
What if I miss a collection?

Tell us as early as you can and we will do what we can. Because a week of food is cooked and packed for a named student, we cannot promise it can be held or remade after the Sunday 13:00 to 15:00 collection window.

What if something is wrong with my food?

Tell us the same day and send a photo. We will replace it or credit it against your next collection. Because each week is cooked to order in bulk, a week that has already been prepared is not refundable in full. The full terms are on the Terms and Conditions page, which you accept at checkout.

What happens if a container is lost or damaged?

BulkBite containers remain the property of BulkBite and are tracked against your account. A lost, unreturned or damaged container may be charged at the disclosed replacement price of R200 per container. Normal wear and tear is not charged.
