Kitchen internship · Stellenbosch
Work in the
BulkBite kitchen.
We cook a week of student meals in one production day, portion them, label them and hand them over on the weekend. It is real kitchen work: hot, fast, and finished when the last container is sealed.
Checking whether applications are open…
Applications are closed at the moment.
We open a round when the next intake is planned, so there is nothing to do in the meantime. Everything below stays true for when it does.
The work
What you would actually do.
Cook at volume
A batch is a hundred kilograms of finished food, not a pan. You would work from a weighed recipe and keep to it, and learn why a hundred grams out per portion matters when there are two hundred portions.
Portion and pack
Every meal is weighed to its plan size, labelled and dated. It is the part that decides whether a student gets what they paid for, and the part with the least room for approximation.
Hand it over
Collection is a fixed window and people arrive inside it. You would be part of getting a week of food out of a fridge and into the right hands without a queue forming.
Everyone on the BulkBite team is a student, so the work is built around a timetable: one production day, and the hours are agreed with you rather than assumed. We are not putting a wage or a start date on this page until they are decided, and we would rather say that than print a number we have to take back.
Read this before you apply
What BulkBite is, plainly.
It is what you would be making, so it is worth a minute.
- A meal-prep service for Stellenbosch students. Food that is already cooked, not ingredients to cook.
- 7 or 14 prepared meals a week. One meal a day, or lunch and dinner, for seven days - two different dishes each week.
- Collected or delivered. Students can collect for free or choose paid delivery within Stellenbosch.
- Every Sunday, outside Saint Mary’s church at Eikestad. Collection is from 13:00 to 15:00.
So: these are prepared meals, not ingredient kits; a week is 7 or 14 meals, depending on the plan; and free collection happens once a week, with paid delivery available in Stellenbosch.
Applying
A short assessment, then your result.
The assessment works on a phone or a laptop. You give us your name, email and phone number, then answer 24 short questions, one at a time. Most people take 10 to 15 minutes. They are about the things that happen in a busy kitchen team: following an instruction, spotting a mistake, a spill on the floor, a crewmate who has fallen behind.
It is not an intelligence test and it is not a personality test. It is about how you work. Answer from your own head. Some questions are meant to be hard, and if you do not know something, saying so is a perfectly good answer.
You get one attempt, your answers save as you go, and if you are interrupted you can carry on where you left off on the same device. You see your result at the end, and if you progress we contact you on the details you gave us.
What we collect, and for how long
If you start the assessment we record your name, email address and phone number, your answers, and how you completed it: how long each question took, whether you changed an answer, and whether you left the page or switched tabs while answering. We use it to assess applications for this internship and to check, over time, that the assessment is fair and actually predicts who does well. Nobody outside BulkBite sees it, and we delete it six months after the round closes.
At the end we also ask your favourite food, for our menu research. It is optional and has no effect on your result.
You will be asked to agree before you start. If you would rather not, do not start the assessment, and nothing about you is recorded. Read the full Privacy Policy, including your right to ask for human review of the assessment result.
